Otautau and western Southland sit on the Aparima, with heavy soils that pug up badly once they're waterlogged. A lot of the work here is getting water off paddocks and out of yards before winter, whether that's clearing existing tile drains, tracking lines to find where they've collapsed, or putting in new drainage with proper gravel so it actually runs.
